The 13th December 2008 was the ArchSoc end of year dinner. Around 20 people enjoyed a fun-filled evening of food, conversation and karaoke, followed by the traditional pubs and nightclubs of Adelaide tour.
Amid the entertaining and dulcit tunes of singing students the evening was marked by a particularly special event - the first awarding of the perpetual Andrew Allen-Farr memorial award. This award went to, unreservedly, the most deserving ArchSoc member for the year - Kelly Michael (Treasurer). For those who did not know Andrew Allen-Farr he was an enthusiastic student whos life was tragically cut short in a swimming accident in January 2008. Andrew's passion for archaeology and his dedication to the Flinders University Archaeology Society in the past has ensured the group grow in strength in 2008 and continue for future years. For this reason Kelly was seen by the deliberation panel as the most deserving recipient. Her dedication to ArchSoc and extraordinary effort over the year in all manner of things greatly reflected the enthusiasm that Andrew also held for the society. To have the award presented in the presence of members of the Allen-Farr family made the night an especially moving occasion for all who attended.
A special thank you must go to the Allen-Farr family for their continued support of ArchSoc through a very difficult time for themselves.
The Flinders Archaeology Department deserves particular salutation for their support of the award and for their invaluable assistance with ArchSoc administration throughout the year.
Thanks to the Andrew Allen-Farr memorial award deliberation panel for creating the award, the memorable presentation and selecting the most deserving recipient.
Congratulations and a special thanks to Kelly Michael for not only recieving the award, but also organising the night it was to be presented on, and the exceptional organisational efforts all year round.
A very heartfelt thankyou to the ArchSoc committee members whos dedication and committment made certain the events run this year were always a resounding success.
Finally, thankyou to all the ArchSoc members, university staff and general public who continue to support ArchSoc in all its endeavours. It is this friendship and support that makes a group like this such a fantastic part of university life.
Cheers,
Andrew
